Low awareness for SHIP in Mexico’s industry
An online survey among manufacturing companies in Mexico was carried out to assess the awareness for SHIP among the entrepreneurs. Answers from a total of 34 representatives from companies of different industrial sectors in Mexico were received in October 2017, such as food and beverage, automotive, pharmaceutical among others.

The need of more promotion and dissemination is ratified by the answers to the question if they were aware of the option of using solar thermal technology to supply heat to their industrial processes. 53% of the respondents answered to be not aware or never heard of before, while 29% answered being aware and only 18% considers being completely aware.
Currently, there are 96 solar thermal plants for process heat in Mexico registered in the world map of turnkey SHIP suppliers of Solar Payback. However, the lack of awareness about it is clear since only 12% of the participants said to be completely aware of the fact that there are already solar process heat plants in the country. 18% considers being aware, while the 41% is not aware or has never heard of.
On the other side, the 88% of the participants agrees that solar thermal technologies can reduce operating cost and improve the energy balance of their companies.
The results also show that the industry is interested in knowing more about solar process heat and getting information about success stories, suppliers, financial schemes and collaboration alternatives to promote solar process heat technologies in Mexico.
